NYC ALT.NET: on RSVPs and capacity issues

"As many of you may have noticed over the past several months, we have experienced an increased incidence of meetings filling to capacity quite soon after the topic is announced and the meeting is opened to RSVP by group members. ... MoreThe capacity of the space which we are typically able to acquire in order to hold our meetings (about 60) is significantly smaller than the overall size of our registered membership (about 450) to which announcements of new meeting topics are sent via e-mail. This means that at any given monthly meeting, we can accommodate only about a scant 13% of our overall membership of 450. Since only 13% of the group needs to respond YES before the space is filled, the meetings tend to fill very quickly once announced. This has lead to an ever-greater incidence of members being 'wait-listed' for the meetings and often eventually being unable to attend due to meeting space capacity constraints. Since we are unable to acquire significantly larger space on a regular basis, the best course of action to follow is this: if the topic seems of interest to you once its announced, make every effort to RSVP with 'YES' as soon as possible to ensure that you are not prevented from attending a meeting with a topic that you consider valuable: BE ONE OF THE FIRST 13% TO RSVP Thanks, -The NYC ALT.NET Organizing Team "
